Watch out, going to whip out my nerd here for a moment.
So, I’ve been dabbling in WildStar on their beta weekends when I have some downtime from the millions of other work things I have to do.
And I am in love.
It’s been a loooong time since I played an MMO that has captivated me as much as Wild Star. It’s so fun and funny and just highly entertaining, and SO pretty! I love everything about it, all the races and the world and uuuugh…I could wax poetic about it for hours.
Anyways, the first character I made was a little Aurin, Mirri. Aurin are a rabbit/cat/forest creature type race and they are vomit enducingly cute. So I doodled her up here at lunch today.
I’ve also got a couple other characters I’m dabbling in, because I love both factions and I can’t decide which I like better. I’ll probably draw up my Draken character latter…because dragon like people, how can I resist!
Bleh, I’ve had a huge shortage of time lately due to workworkwork so I’ve been sorely lacking in doodles :(
I knocked this one out at the tail end of lunch as I had to work thru most of it this time around. I at least got to do SOMETHING.
As you can see…my sketches and doodles tend to be A FREAKING MESS D: I am a sloppy sloppy artist! I’ll either refine this as I ink it, or just leave it as is and paint over it to clean it up.
Anyways, some random dragon/lady goodness. I don’t draw the dragons and or the dragon ladies enough. Shame on me.
More work on my Witchy Birdy Lady…working title >_>;
Anyways…did some more work on her at lunch today. I’ve been listening to a lot of witch house music so I think that’s greatly influencing the mood and theme of this picture.
The image on the left is where I pretty much got to painting today. I extended the size of the canvas from the last image I posted of her to give more space for her head. I also wanted to extend the line of her dress down as I found it to be a nice visual look. Also finally painted the bird skull more and refined it.
I added in the hands as well, it really gives a nice dynamic element to the piece and I think helps focus your attention in on her face more.
The piece on the right is just a last minute rough idea of where I want to take her neck jewelry. It’s just an idea for now, but I think I might build on it more and see how it looks. More arcing elements to bring your eye back up to the focus of her face.
Oh hey, I did a thing at lunch… again… surprise, surprise.
Knocked out this rough painting in just a hair over an hour. Got really into working on the face, which is always my favorite part to paint, and didn’t get enough time to look up some bird skull references D: So… that came out looking pretty bad due to just pulling it straight out of my head.
THIS IS WHY REFERENCES ARE GOOOOOD. Because my memory sucks :/
Did a quick 15 minute sketch at the tail end of lunch today. Kiva is a little halfling druid I’m playing in Dungeon World (my last character met an unfortunate end, sadly). Thankfully the upside to your character dying is you get to make a new one! Hopefully Kiva’s life span will be a lot longer than her predecessor XD
More sketchin' of the lunchtime variety!
I added more to the piece I posted before, of my Twi’lek character Oona. This picture is going to feature her as a before and after, and is a testament to why I’ll probably NEVER get into doing comics.
I am terrible at drawing the same character multiple times! As you can see…this is supposed to be of the same character, but so far they look nothing alike D: Woe is me. The sketch to the left is still very rough and not as refined as the one on the right…but still…it’s going to take a lot of rework to make sure that the two versions of Oona featured are the same character. A lot of it is also due to the body shape and that they don’t look like they have the same form *lotsofsighing*.
But well. More refining and work on this one to come :) Apart from the above mentioned problems and all the size/anatomy issues… I’m digging this piece so far.
It’s salvageable I think…
Doodle mode, ACTIVATE!
A quickie 20 minute sketch I worked up of my old Star Wars table top RPG character, Oona Oochala. I want to create a dual picture for her, since she started out in the game as just a smuggler and ended up becoming a Jedi master by the end. So I want to show the duality of her ‘before and after’.
Out of all the table top RPG’s I’ve played, Oona ranks in my top two :) So I thought I should show her some love by finally doing an art piece of her.
A lunch doodle I worked on last week at work. Something that’s been in my head for a long time that finally crawled its way out onto the digital canvas.
It’s been a long time since I did anything with my OC, Sayda. So here she is after all this time. I’m going to rework her design for this piece a little *as you can start to see with the alteration of her horns*. I sketched out her old outfit, but I think that will change for this piece.
As for the other ‘apparition’…well…all in good time This is going to be a fun attempt at playing with the contrast of light and dark between two characters…looking forward to finishing this one someday.
Pardon, my geek is showing. A small part of why I love tabletop roleplaying games is creating a new character and then doodling what they might look like.
The above image is for my newest possible character for an up and coming D&D game I’ll be participating in. I’m a sucker for ladies with horns and I’ve done the half-dragon so I decided to try my hand at a Tiefling.
This sketch was done some time ago, but the face kept bothering me…so I kept adjusting it…and then I messed it up further so I decided to just scrap it and call it done. It’s just a hypothetical on what my character MAY look like, though. I might draw up some other ideas in the future…but I’m pretty happy with this appearance so far :)
I did this more, also, as a way to also try out some new drawing/painting techniques based off the styles of some lady artists that I greatly admire who also do some nice black and white portraiture work. I learn a lot from studying the styles of other artists so I took up to analyzing some of their pieces to help give me an idea on how to approach the above drawing. I give them credit for this piece, you can take a look at their work at the links below :)
This drawing is definitely not as good as I would like it to be…but I am also my own worst critic. It’s at least an improvement, I feel for certain aspects of my style, but it is also very apparent on just how rusty I am :/ I really need to draw more…
'Beauty's Beast' Revisited.
(view full size image for a better look)
I have been going thru old artwork lately and cringing at how terrible some of them look to me now. This one in particular I find to be pretty terrible at the moment…so at lunch today I started redrawing over the old piece.
I didn’t have much time between other work, but I managed to redraw the lady in the image somewhat. I’m currently playing with different hair styles, but this was the one so far that I liked, it just framed her face and pose the best.
I still need to make her look more ‘beast’ like, a little more emaciation and boney bits…but the form and especially the face look a lot better to me now. Not the best…but better…
